T’bilisi Shopping
There’s a lot to do in T’bilisi, the capital of Georgia. One of the oldest trade cities in the world, it was once a stopping point on the Silk Road, while today visitors still come to find new things to buy. There’s lots to do if you want to shop, ranging from open marketplaces to giant shopping malls to help you find the perfect souvenir.
Street Markets
Visitors who want to get up close and personal with their purchases should take a stroll down the Dry Market Bridge, where the largest open-air market in all of Georgia opens shop each day. Merchants jostle for a good spot on the bridge over the Mtkvari River and sell everything from books to silverware to clothes to auto parts. History buffs will find trinkets that date back to the Soviet era, such as coins and medals. All prices are negotiable; flex your haggling muscles and you may come away with a bargain.
Produce and Meat
Supermarkets can be found all over the capital city, but it’s much more fun to buy your next meal at a produce market. The largest food market is next to the main Didube metro station, where buses and trains come in and out of the city. These same buses allow farmers to bring their products to sell: fruit, vegetables, nuts, spices, cheese, and sweets can be found for cheap prices. For those who want the most authentic shopping experience, it’s hard to find a place that’s more authentic than the Didube market, where locals as well as tourists go to pick up food.
