The state of Maine has an official slogan: “The Way Life Should Be.” Terramor, Maine’s new luxury glamping retreat, should have a similar one: “The Way Camping Should Be.” Normally, I love everything about camping, right up until it actually comes to going to sleep. Camping out under the stars, sitting around a fire, and waking up to pine-scented fresh air: it’s everything that makes camping worthwhile. Except for when it’s time to go to sleep, and you’re struggling to get comfortable on a sleeping mat on rocky ground, the sun wakes you up when it heats the tent to 100 degrees at 6 am, and you have to go for days without showering in between sweaty, dirty hikes.

Terramor is camping for people like me, who want to maximize their time in nature but still have all the creature comforts of a hotel. Spending time outdoors is one of my favorite things, but there are certain parts of the outdoor experience (bugs, a lack of running water) that I can do without. (Yes, I realize this makes me a terrible outdoorsy person.) I’ve also realized that a good night’s sleep can make or break my camping vacations and that getting a solid rest in a tent generally isn’t going to happen for me. Terramor’s Tents

Calling Terramor’s rooms “tents” feels like a disservice. These tents are like if you built a regular five-star hotel room but used canvas for the walls and roof. A screened-in porch gives the tent a cabin-like feel while keeping the pesky part of nature (bugs) safely outdoors where they belong. Outside, each tent has its own private fire ring, where you can sip a nightcap while reclining in an Adirondack chair as you swap stories over the campfire. (Firestarters and wood are provided for free.)

Inside, a king-sized bed is made up with Frette linens. Pendleton blankets and rugs lend a warm and rustic vibe to the space. Past the bedroom, a spacious full bathroom provides all the modern conveniences you’d expect to find at a luxury resort: orange-blossom scented toiletries, a walk-in shower with dual rain shower heads, fluffy towels, double-sinks, and a separate water closet.

In addition to running water and plumbing, the tents even have electricity and WiFi. The area around Acadia National Park is often a dead zone for cell service, so the WiFi is extremely helpful for planning out your day in the park, even if you want to otherwise disconnect.)

In the morning, sip a steaming cup of coffee on your screened-in porch as you enjoy the sounds of the forest waking up. The coffee in your rustic ceramic cup is made from Maine-roasted beans and brewed in the Chemex pour-over coffee maker you’ll find in every tent. Want someone else to make you a cup? Stroll down to Terramor’s main lodge where you can find a delicious breakfast buffet (and ready-made-coffee) with plenty of options to choose from―including fresh Maine blueberries and strawberries.

You might not want to leave your tent, but the common spaces at Terramor might just entice you out. Acadia National Park is the largest expanse of naturally dark sky east of the Mississippi River, and Terramor, set amid a deep forest, is the perfect spot to stargaze from. Powerful Celestron telescopes are available at the lodge to help you focus on planets and constellations, and you can even connect your smartphone to the telescope to get a free cheat sheet as to what you’re seeing.

The resort’s pool and hot tub are open into the evening, so you can stargaze from the hot tub for a very relaxing end to your day. (Although the resort is very family-friendly, if you’re visiting without kids in tow, Terramor’s hot tub and pool area have much-appreciated adults-only hours in the evening.)

Love grilling out when you camp? Terramor offers grill packages that include a grill site, food, and all cookware you’ll need for the perfect dinner. Want to sit back and relax while someone else makes your food? Bar Harbor’s incredible dining scene is just a quick drive away, or you can keep things easy and treat yourself to dinner at Terramor’s Kitchen 207 restaurant. Grab-and-go lunches are also available to take with you so you can enjoy a summit lunch during a hike without having to bring up your entire kitchen.

Amenities like these emphasize Terramor’s mission: to bring comfort and convenience to camping, so you can focus on enjoying your trip to Acadia and Bar Harbor rather than stressing over setting up and maintaining a campsite.
