How can someone determine the top 100 family campgrounds in the U.S.? ReserveAmerica, a website that handles 3.5 million camping reservations each year, does it by asking park rangers and campers at sites around the country.
So what’s the verdict? A glance at the list reveals an abundance of campsites in the South, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and West regions of the country. There is a notable absence of campsites in the northeast, despite New York leading the way with 12 locations on the list. States like New Hampshire and Maine, typically thought of as outdoor destinations, are not represented at all, and Vermont has only one campsite included. After New York, Florida checks in with 11 campsites, followed by South Carolina and California with eight each and Texas with seven.
The full list is sorted by state for easy scanning. If you like lists, there are more to be found, including top canoeing spots, top unique cabins, and top park beaches.
