Although we’re sad to see warm weather disappear with the end of summer, the prospect of fall fashion—like cozy sweaters and boots—and autumn adventures have us excited. Grab that pumpkin spice latte and your leaf-peeping map, and stock up on these fall travel fashion essentials so you’ll be ready for your next trip.
Numi The Simone
We love the elegant look of silk, but this delicate fabric isn’t generally great for travel—unless it’s Numi’s Sustainable Silk. This travel-friendly material is made from a blend of 69 percent Naia™ Acetate and 31 percent silk that’s stain-repellent, machine-washable, and machine-dryable. Numi’s The Simone is our favorite piece from the company. This classic button-up has a fitted (but not tight) silhouette and can be dressed up (with a skirt) or dressed down (knotted with jeans) as needed.
ADAY That’s A Wrap Top
Carry-on only travelers, you need ADAY’s That’s A Wrap Top for your fall trips. Pack this one top and wear it multiple ways (so it looks like you packed more outfits than you really did). This smart blouse uses a combination of ties and wraps to style it in different looks, including as a wrap shirt or a drapey top. Made from a nylon/elastane blend, this blouse is soft, stretchy, and breathable—and machine-washable.
State Cashmere The V-Neck Basic Sweater
Too afraid to bring your expensive cashmere on a trip? Or even wear it outside of the house? No worries with State Cashmere’s The V-Neck Basic Sweater, a luxurious cashmere that costs an affordable $100. This sweater delivers all the cozy comfort of premium cashmere (it’s made from 100 percent Inner Mongolian Cashmere), and is sustainable, soft, and durable. You can wear this sweater without worry, as State Cashmere’s cashmere is fair-trade and cruelty-free, plus they will repair your clothes (for free!) as needed to prolong their life.
Merrell Evertrail Tights
Leggings are the most comfortable bottoms for every type of outdoor activity, but if you’ve ever snagged a pair on a tough trail, you know that they have their downside for hiking. Unless they’re Merrell’s Evertrail Tights. These tights look like regular, fashionable leggings, but they have a secret strength—they’re made from an abrasion-resistant fabric, so you can scramble over rocks without worry. (Don’t worry, the fabric is made from nylon and spandex, so it’s just as stretchy as regular leggings.) Other better-than-normal leggings features include: two side pockets (large enough to hold your phone) and an internal stash pocket for valuables.
Fjallraven Stina Fleece
Nothing says fall like fleece, and the Fjallraven Stina Fleece is one of our favorites. It’s made from 100 percent recycled polyester, and it’s ultra-soft and warm. Zippered handwarmer pockets will keep your hands toasty (or your valuables secure). Wear this as a jacket on chilly but sunny days, or under a shell on wet fall evenings.
Dansko Bea Boots
Rain boots don’t have to look like rainboots, as Dansko’s Bea Boots prove. These fully waterproof ankle boots will keep your feet nice and dry without requiring a change of shoes anytime you go somewhere dressy. These boots feature Dansko’s Natural Arch technology to deliver plenty of support (along with a memory foam footbed for cushioning) that will keep you dry and comfortable all day long.
Patagonia Nano Puff Jacket
Patagonia’s Nano Puff Jacket is our most-packed jacket in the fall. It’s unbelievably lightweight, but provides a surprising amount of warmth. A water-repellent finish means the jacket will work in light drizzle, and a ripstop exterior prevents snags from trees or rocks during outdoor activities. The Nano Puff is the perfect layer for unpredictable weather (or airplane cabin temperatures), as it stuffs down into its own pocket for an easily packable jacket you can have on you at all times.
