John Denver may have called it “almost heaven”, but WalletHub disagrees, ranking West Virginia as the least fun state in the U.S.
In order to determine the least and most fun states in America, WalletHub compared the 50 states across two key categories: entertainment/recreation and nightlife. The entertainment/recreation ranking considered criteria such as amount of attractions, quality of weather, number of restaurants, skiing facilities, beach quality, and more. Nightlife evaluated factors such as the average cost of beer and wine, access to bars, time of last call, number of casinos, etc.
According to WalletHub, the 10 least fun states in the U.S. are:
- West Virginia
- Rhode Island
On the flip side, the most 10 most fun states were deemed to be:
- New York
Of course, the definition of “fun” varies from person to person, so don’t take this list too seriously. If you’re all about hiking, rafting, and climbing, West Virginia (with the state’s new national park) could be a great destination for you.
