Laredo Things to Do
Laredo may not have the name recognition in Texas that Houston or Dallas have, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t a variety of things to do here. If you’re visiting this area of the Lone Star State, keep these destinations in mind.
Lake Casa Blanca State Park
This park has over 370 acres to catch fish, go for a swim, or do some bird watching. You can also play a few rounds of golf on the course right next door. Go for a picnic, head out on the water, and stay overnight on a campsite.
Welcoming and Respectful
There are a lot of things to learn about a town by what it does for the people within it. This town clearly cares about those who came before. You can see the Spanish influences in the Welcome Center in the Northeast section of the town. There are also several veterans memorials located in Jarvis Plaza in downtown Laredo.
Saints About Town
San Agustin is a pretty popular name around town, as San Agustin Square was a part of the original town of Laredo that first sprung up in 1755. It’s a popular spot to enjoy the outdoors, despite the fact that it can be frequented by homeless people. You can also see the statue in honor of St. Augustine as well as other famous figures. If you’re interested in the layout and details of its religious centers, there’s a cathedral of the same name that was completed in 1872. Or visit St. Peter’s Catholic Church, which was built just before the turn of the 20th Century.
Art and Culture
The Laredo Center for the Arts is a good place to get a sense of the local talent, as you can see different exhibits, from costumes to pottery to water colors. This spot is located in the old City Hall, and is definitely a place to see what’s new. If you want to see something a tad more historic, there’s the Border Heritage Museum which is inexpensive, and a good way to understand more about those who live in this area—on either side of the border.
