Moncton Things to Do
Moncton, New Brunswick is located in the center of the Maritime Provinces and is situated along the Petitcodiac River, and is considered to be one of the central hubs of the New Brunswick region.
Irish Pubs and Bars
Scattered throughout the downtown area are many Irish pubs and bars. The Irish came to this area of Canada over 200 years ago and their influence is still felt to this very day. The Old Triangle is a favorite of tourists and locals alike, and also has an extensive food menu. There are free musical performances on the weekends, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. Some other favorite Irish pubs include The St. James’ Gate and Overtime. There is also an Irish Families memorial just outside of town which commemorates the many Irish who moved to this area from Ireland.
Magnetic Hill Zoo
This small zoo has lions, tigers, monkeys and sea otters. It also has an unusual exhibit of guinea pigs whose open pen area is filled with toy sized farm equipment. There is also a small pet cemetery with the animals that have already passed on. This is a great place for an enjoyable family outing, but do be aware that with its small size, a full tour of the facility can be accomplished in about an hour. The zoo is small, and some tourists think that it is not large enough to warrant the entry fee. If you do decide to visit, you will have an enjoyable and unhurried experience.
Hopewell Rocks Park
Located within the Bay of Fundy, this natural phenomenon is well worth the trip. These beautiful rock formations are covered in evergreen moss, and have been eroded into majestic shapes. These towering formations have been nicknamed the “Flowerpot Rocks” due to their shape. The Bay of Fundy experiences one of the highest high tides on record, and the landscape will differ greatly depending upon the time of day that you visit. During low tide you can go out and explore the formations and investigate some interesting nooks and crannies. During high tide, the “Flowerpot Rocks” turn into islands and much of the beach is underwater.
