Port Angeles Things To Do
Port Angeles is a quiet town situated on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington, an area known more for its logging industry than anything else. Still, the sleepy town has experienced some tourism in recent years following the success of the Twilight book series, which are set in the area.
Olympic National Park
Port Angeles is a great base for visiting the northern sections of Olympic National Park. Here, you can explore the alpine and low forest regions near town or expand your adventure to the rain forest and coastal sections just a few hours away. This is a truly magnificent park that offers easy walks, gorgeous viewpoints, hiking, camping, wilderness backpacking, and beachcombing within unique and beautiful ecosystems. Elwha Valley is a beautiful, off-the-beaten-track valley with many things to do, including Madison Falls and Whiskey Bend.
Port Angeles Ferry
From the terminal on the waterfront downtown, you can catch a ferry to Victoria, British Columbia, and be there in 55 to 90 minutes. Two ferry companies serve the area offering passenger-only day trips to overnight packages for vehicles and bicycles. One company sails only seasonally and the other sails year-round. Rates vary considerably depending on number of passengers and vehicle size.
Olympic Cellars
Located right off the 101 between Port Angeles and Sequim, this is one of the few wineries on the Olympic Peninsula. It is family-owned and one of the oldest wineries in Washington. The winery does not grow its own grapes, so there is always a unique combination of wines available. The convenient location and affordable tastings make Olympic Cellars a great place to stop.
Sol Duc Hot Springs
The Sol Duc Hot Springs are natural mineral springs smack dab in the old growth forests of the Olympic National Park. This is a relaxing place with great ambiance and beautiful views. It is also possible to rent a cabin near the hot springs.
Crescent Lake
Crescent Lake is a glacial lake in the northwestern Olympic National Park. It is flanked on the southern shore by US-101. Here, you will find a ranger station and information center, boat dock, picnic area, and lodging.
Port Angeles is a common retreat for those who enjoy the great outdoors, but there are also many restaurants and shops to explore downtown.
