Port Dickson is a coastal town of beaches and sea views only an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur, referred to simply as PD by the locals.  The port city was historically built around its mining industry before and during British colonization, but is now better known for its yacht clubs, resorts, and tourism.

Beaches 

The obvious main attraction for most visitors to Port Dickson are the beaches. There are many beaches to choose from along the 18km of PD coastline. Teluk Kemang beach is the most popular for weekend visitors to Port Dickson. It is touristy but has better facilities than the other beaches.

Apart from the usual eateries and changing/shower rooms commonly found at most beaches, Port Dickson’s town square also has a Tourist Information Centre and open air stage. It is also a good place to find water sports and beach activities. You can enjoy beach volleyball, canoeing, speed boat rides, banana gunboat rides, and beach buggy rides. This is not the place for a secluded or quiet retreat; the beach is not clean, and it’s crowded with families picnicking and school-children playing with water and sand. Also, none of the beach chairs you see are free, so you will need to rent the chairs you use.

The beach found at the 4th mile of the Port Dickson coastal road is also popular. Almost the white sandy beach you might picture, it is located just opposite of Hotel Sri Malaysia.

Another to try is the beach behind the Bayu Beach Hotel and Royal Port Dickson Yatch Club (R.P.D.Y.C). Expect most beaches to be crowded (especially over the weekend) and dirty, or to have only the most basic facilities. Many people find it best to bring their own food, games, and music to make a day of it. In some areas you can can rent your own crab net to catch a very fresh meal. Whatever you end up doing, stay to late enough to watch the sun set over the water and it will have been a good day.

Port Dickson Attractions

There are a few reasons to pull yourself away from the beach and take some time to venture into the city. A weekend market and a few small museums can be a good reason to get out, and it is popular to visit the PD Town Square, which is the main venue for most large events in PD.

In the same area there is also the Masjid Teluk Kemang mosque. Beautiful from a distance, but if you wish to visit it remember that it is an active mosque and follow the appropriate rules and traditions.

There is also the “Dragon in the Sky” mosque which is architecturally unique from other mosques commonly found in the country, though still with the minaret and dome roof, both beautifully decorated with colored tiles.

For kids there is also an ostrich showfarm and mini zoo.
