Valley of Fire State Park features 40,000 acres of bright red Aztec sandstone outcrops, ancient petrified trees and petroglyphs dating back over 2,000 years. Here are some things to do there:

Visitor Center – Make the visitor center your first stop. Along with a gift shop, it has information on everything you need to know about the park.

Atlatl Rock – Some of the best petroglyphs in the park are found at Atlatl rock.

Balancing Rock – is an easy half-mile hike from the visitor center. Be sure to walk past the spire and turn around for a true sense of how the rock is balancing.

Elephant Rock – is another of the iconic formations of the park and the last stop along the main road. Park the car at the East entrance station, and hike back to the rock for some great desert views.

The Cabins – are a set of historic stone cabins built with the native sandstone of the park by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930’s.

The Beehives – are the first set of formations you will see upon entering the park from the west. Wind and water erosion created these giant rocks that really do look like beehives.

Petrified Rocks – are actually petrified logs. They’re an easy walk right off the Valley of Fire Highway, near the west entrance station.

White Domes – is an impressive stop that offers contrasting and beautiful rock formations. It’s definitely worth your time to take this hike!
