Tipping in Cyprus

Tipping in Cyprus isn’t obligatory, but may be expected. Since the country is such a popular tourist destination, tipping is common. Keep in mind, however, that a good deal of hotels and restaurants include a service charge. There is a chance, however, that this may go directly to the business owner and not the staff, so be certain to always ask before deciding if/what to tip. There is no set standard on how much to leave when service isn’t included or doesn’t go to management, but it’s always a good practice to tip a few euros for great service.

Cafe Server: A tip isn’t necessary.

Restaurant Server: A tip of 10 percent is sometimes included in the final bill, but not always. There is also a possibility that this added cost might go to the owner of the restaurant and not the server. Be sure to check the bill first for these inclusions and ask who receives an additional tip before deciding what to give. A tip of €2 to €3 is sufficient.

Bartender: It’s not necessary to tip a bartender, as most do not expect it and some may even refuse it.

Taxis: A tip isn’t expected, but is appreciated. A good rule of thumb is to round up to the nearest euro or give up to 5 percent of the final fare for exceptional service. 

Tour Guide: Tip your guide at least 10 percent of the total bill, and the driver at least 5 percent.

Airport Shuttle: It is not necessary to tip your driver, but feel free to give €1 per bag if they help with your luggage.

Doorman: A simple thank you is always appreciated, but feel free to offer €1 for exceptional service.

Spa Service Provider: A tip isn’t expected, but you can leave up to 10 percent for anything that goes above and beyond your expectations.
