If you are planning to come to Cardiff to visit the city and the sites, here are some warnings and dangers you should be aware of to make sure you have a comfortable and safe visit.
Cardiff is rainy! Summer temperatures average about 23 degrees Celsius (about 74-degrees Fahrenheit) but the temperatures can change quickly. Check the weather before you visit, and make sure you bring enough clothing for drastic temperature changes at any time of year.
Cardiff can be a little rowdy at night, especially when there are events at the Millenium Stadium. Travel in groups at night and avoid dark alleys. You should be careful walking through some parts of Grangetown. This is an area where a lot of people get robbed and have their pockets picked by thieves. You should also be aware of the prostitutes working along the river at a place named the Magic Roundabout. Bute Street is another place you should avoid.
Unlicensed cab drivers are notorious for trying to overcharge their customer – especially customers who are traveling far away from the center of the city. Always negotiate the price with a driver before you leave town to go back to your hotel or to visit a site.
Never get into an unlicensed cab alone, especially if you are a woman. In fact, unless it’s a female driver, all woman should get into a taxi in pairs or a group.There have been previous incidents of young women being sexually assaulted by unlicensed cab drivers – so take note.
