Makati Warnings and Dangers
The City of Makati is one of 16 cities that make up the Manila Metro area in the Philippines. It’s a popular coastal destination, and just over 500,000 people call it home year-round. There are a number of dangers to be aware of when traveling here, as with most destinations.
Fake Gift Checks
Don’t give money to people if you are approached with what sounds like a deal that’s too good to be true–it usually is. Some travelers report being approached by well-dressed individuals trying to sell discounted gift checks to use here. Don’t fall for it.
Ask Permission to Take Pictures
If you use a larger camera rather than a cell phone camera, ask permission to use it in private places like the Ayala Center. If you disregard this warning you could get approached by security guards.
Theft
Whether eating at a hotel function or out on the town, bags can be stolen by criminals targeting tourists–as in most destinations. Keep your belongings close at all times, even when using the bathroom or visiting the buffet.
