Malawi Warnings and Dangers
Malawi is a landlocked country in Africa with treasures that include the Great Rift Valley and diverse wildlife. It’s also a place with issues that include power outages and dangerous animals both in the waters and on land.
Poisonous Animals
Sleep under a tent to help avoid bugs that can bite and cause infection. Keep an eye out for snakes. Green and Black Mambas are some of the most poisonous snakes on earth. They’re everywhere in Malawi and they move fast. Do not go near hippos if you see them in the water. They’re very protective of their young and they will attack you.
Malaria and Bilharzia
Malaria is an infectious disease that is rampant all over the country. You must take Malarial tablets before you leave and once you’re here to ward it off. Bilharzia is another dangerous disease that is also rampant and spread by worms. It’s primarily found in water. Avoid swimming in the in-land reedy parts of the waters as they can be dangerous. If you think you’ve been infected, head for the local authorities to prevent the disease from causing permanent harm.
Power Outages
Power is not reliable in much of the country. When traveling, be aware that the power may go out at any time during the evening or even during the day. Backup your data every five minutes.
Get Your Shots
Local diseases include several strains of hepatitis and yellow fever. You need to get shots before heading out. Vaccines can prevent them.
