Be Aware on Public Transportation

Tourists should be especially aware when using transportation to and from their sightseeing destinations in Mexico City. Thieves can use fake taxis, so be sure you’re getting into a real cab if using one. You can never be too careful when you are in an unfamiliar area.

It’s a good idea for tourists to avoid the metro bus system altogether while in Mexico City. These buses can become extremely crowded and there have been instances of people having their wallets or purses stolen while on these buses, especially during the busier times. Avoid taking out your wallet to give to homeless or street performers. Consult with employees at your hotel about the safest ways to travel in your particular area of the city.

Mexico city has some of the best food in the world. There is no shortage of places to eat in the sprawling metropolis, but there are some places that you should avoid. The most important thing is to avoid street vendors and only eat at restaurants recommended by a tour guide or someone that works in your hotel. Some restaurants have hidden charges you might not be ready for called cubierto. The charge won’t be a lot of money, but you should avoid it. Be aware that you might have to spend a little more than you thought when eating out.
