Petra Warnings and Dangers
If you are lucky enough to be able to go and visit the “lost city” of Petra, then you are going see one of the most historic sites in the entire world. Because this is a tourist destination, there is bound to be a few things that are going to make your trip go from fun and frolic to danger and deception.
Bring Your Money and Keep Track of It
While Petra is something that you have to see if you’re able, the fact of the matter is that it’s also one of the most expensive tourist stops in the entire region. Jordan has clearly found that one of the things they can do with this particular “lost city” is make quite a bit of money. That means they charge all sorts of fees in order to let people set foot in the place. That’s extra hard for travelers because they are having to bring lots of money to an area that is a bit of a wild west when it comes to making sure no one is ripped off or stolen from. When you go there, you’ll need to keep a solid hand on your belongings in order to make sure you can leave again once you come. There are also a number of grifters that swarm the area around Petra and will be looking to get as much money from you as humanly possible. Sometimes these people will try and talk you out of your money and other times they will attempt to take your money through brute force. You need to be on your toes at all times.
Stay Protected from the Sun
While it might seem as though this should be able to go without saying, the fact of the matter is that Petra is in the middle of the desert. This means that when you go to visit this tourist attraction, you’re going to want to make sure and protect yourself against the Sun. This means that despite the fact that that it is going to be incredibly hot, you don’t want to be wearing clothes that are going to expose you to the elements. You can get yourself into some serious trouble if you are out in the sun too long and can get yourself some rather nasty burns. There is also the chance that you are going to become a bit dehydrated. Luckily, there are places along the area where can get yourself a bottle of cool water and find yourself a tent that will allow you to get out of the sun. You need to make sure you are taking some breaks from your time out in the open air. You also don’t want to come down with sun stroke, which can end your trip to Petra quickly and send you on a quick trip to the Hospital instead.
