Tips on Romania Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Romania Warnings and Dangers

Romania is a growing nation, but the per-capita income is lower than the rest of Europe. This means that sometimes the roads here are not always maintained well. It also means you need to know that crime is sometimes a problem, along with issues such as wild dogs.

Driving in the Country

The country has an extensive network of public transportation so it is not always necessary to drive. Train platforms may not always be level with trains so you should always watch your step when you are getting off any train. Train platforms can be lower than in much of the rest of Europe. When traveling by train at night, make sure you close the compartment completely to keep your belongings safe. If you do choose to drive, keep certain things in mind. In rural areas, there are still lots of horses and buggies. So you need to be aware of them when you see them on the road. They can swerve suddenly. Rural roads may also not be well maintained. Potholes are common after the rain and the roads are narrow so you not always be able to pass any buggies you see. Drivers do no always observe traffic rules. Traffic can be heavy. Driving at night may mean you need to be extra careful as many roads are not well lit during this time. Roads often have wildlife you will need to be aware about when driving.

Be Wary of Stray Dogs

Another problem in the area are stray dogs. If you see a dog without an owner, do not go near it. Rabies vaccination is not always used in Romania so the dog can be very dangerous. Stray dogs are a problem all over the country even in the capital city of Bucharest. Wherever you go, be aware where you place your valuables. Do not place them in your car. Corruption is not uncommon here, especially at the border. Be prepared that you may find minor issues with muggings.
