Sagada Warnings and Dangers
Sitting high in the mountains of the Philippines, the municipality of Sagada is an inviting and picturesque destination. However, visitors should remain aware of dangers and take care to stay safe.
Exploring the Caves
No matter how strong you think you are, never go into the local caves alone. Every visitor needs a tour guide for their own safety. While experienced cave explorers and rock climbers might be okay on their own, those who seldom do this kind of activity need to take precautions. If you do go exploring, remember to wear a good pair of shoes with good grip on them, since some of the rock surfaces are incredibly slick. However, there are also areas in the cave where your guide will encourage you to take off your sandals and walk barefoot. Make sure to move slowly and retain your balance.
Watch Your Environment
Just because the air is typically cooler around Sagada doesn’t mean that the sun is any less dangerous. Please remember to use sunscreen before you go hiking. If you go swimming around the waterfalls, be sure to apply sunscreen once more.
With regard to the waters around Sagada, remember to be particularly careful when you’re in the caves. Some waters are really deep, with holes inside the caverns that fall into waters that are nearly 30 feet deep. These narrow holes are difficult to climb back out of, and the depth of the waters can be deadly.
