For the most part Wroclaw is a quiet place in Poland, and there’s little doubt you’ll be safe while you’re here. A few tips on Wroclaw’s warnings and dangers will give you that many more reasons to enjoy your trip though.

Dangers on the Streets

Uneven pavement, impatient drivers, and sometimes opportunistic locals are all warnings you might want to keep in mind when you’re touring the town. Watch your step if you’re a pedestrian because drivers may not see you, and wear comfortable shoes. The security here is incredibly tight though, with some tourists saying it feels almost overbearing. You’ll find they’re posted in every major area around the city to keep the peace. While most guards are nice to tourists, you may get a few who are watching to see if you make even a small mistake. Be careful where you snap photos (e.g., inside buildings, etc) and definitely don’t wander off onto any private lands.

Prostitution Rings

There are prostitution rings in the town, so be careful if propositioned or asked to pay for a drink by a forward stranger.

Strangers

In general, be careful talking to people when you’re out and about. Several travelers have reported odd behavior when asking for directions, or repeated, unsolicited rides to the bus stop.

Taxis

Be careful of taxi drivers  because they may try to overcharge you. Inquire about the price of the ride before you get into the taxi.

Tipping

One traveler warned not to say thank you if you give your waiter or waitress cash and you expect change back. Saying thank you implies that they should keep it, and you may cause a stir if you try to get it back.
