Tokyo Night Out in Shibuya and Nightlife

One of the most well-known places in Tokyo, the Shibuya ward is also one of the most crowded. Come here at night when it comes to life even further.

Night Out in Shibuya

Head for small restaurants for delightful plates and a taste of authentic Japanese food. Look for a busy intersection that has become synonymous with the city.

Shibuya’s Nombei Yokocho or Drunkard’s Alley

For a look at a favorite haunt of locals, head for Nombei Yokocho. While it’s known in English as Drunkard’s Alley, this is one of the more hidden spots in Shibuya. Lying just east of Shibuya Station and the Hachiko intersection, it’s easy to find. Heading alongside the tracks of the JR Yamanote train Line.  Not just an alley but several streets, it has a huge variety of intimate eating establishments both drinks and small Japanese plates. This the place to head at night for a small dinner party. Many of the restaurants and bars here serve only a few tables at a time so you can get to know the specials and the chef.

The World’s Busiest Intersection

Head for Shibuya Crossing. There’s a famous tourist statue of a dog called Hachiko who waited endlessly for his master. While we’re not sure if this is the world’s busiest intersection, this is definitely one of the most crowded in the city. During the evening, this is when it gets even busier. Lights come on at night and crowds gather during then to drink. Some of the most popular Japanese magazines like to come here for photo shoots so don’t be surprised if you see a model or two.
