Damascene is the art of inlaying different metals into one another of which usually, gold or silver into a darkly oxidized steel background to produce intricate patterns. The Spanish name is Damasquinados, which is the factory’s name as well. This factory is located outside the old city walls along Paseo Circo Romano and is a favorite of tour groups because they allow tours in parts of the factories where local artisans make their damascene products such as swords, shields, blades, etc.
Tip: Factory tours are free. Afterwards they allow you to enter their huge showroom where you can buy all kinds of damascene products.
Souvenir shops are located on the streets and around the walled city, and even the side streets. They are usually side-by-side and have large entrances.
