Warnings and Dangers in Pisa the Tower
The world-renowned Leaning Tower of Pisa has been drawing tourists for hundreds of years to the ancient City of Pisa, located along the shores of the River Arno just above the Tyrrhenian Sea. If you are going to make the trip to Pisa to climb the tower, you should be aware of some of the dangers and warnings.
Save Money: Book Tickets in Advance
Tickets are limited and you might not get one if you arrive without buying one online before you arrive. If you can get one from a local ticket vendor, it will also cost more than if you planned well before you left home. Only 30 people are allowed to climb the tower at a time, and each group is given about 35 minutes to climb up and back down. There isn’t an elevator, so you should be in good enough health to climb the roughly 300 steps up or it may not be worth buying a ticket to get inside.
No Young Kids Allowed
Children under the age of 8-years-old are not allowed to climb the tower. If you are traveling with young children, you should make arrangements for child care if you plan on climbing the tower. If you are going up with a child 8 to 12 years of age, you’ll have to hold their hand the whole time.
No Backpacks Allowed
You can’t take backpacks or handbags on the climb because of the narrow doorways and steps. Don’t worry, though, they have free lockers you can store your stuff in while you make the climb up.
Stay Away from the Bells
The bells are still used and if you’re standing too close when they ring, you could have trouble hearing for a while.
Hucksters & Pick Pockets
There are numerous vendors selling knock-off products outside the tower. Keep your money in a safe space when walking through crowds as it’s possible for a pickpocket to try to snatch your wallet.
