The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently announced their plans to award a contract worth up to $50 million for new uniforms, reports the Daily Mail.
TSA employees will also see their uniform allowances increase to $446 per year. (For comparison, a combat Marine Corp lieutenant receives a one-time—not yearly—uniform allowance of just $400, reports the Washington Examiner.)
This agreement, which was negotiated during the TSA union’s first-ever collective bargaining, calls for American taxpayers to pay for more than $9.5 million increase in the agency’s clothing budget.
Flyers were recently told to prepare for longer security checkpoint lines (with delays of up to three hours in customs at major airports) due to the federal spending cuts that came with the sequester. But hey, at least you’ll have nice uniforms to admire as you wait in long security lines!
