Vienna Shopping – Shops, Stores, Best Buys, & Inside Tips

Vienna Shopping

Vienna is famous for its Christmas shops, its chocolate and its clothing. If you’re looking for shopping in Vienna, be sure to check out these stores and areas:

Hundertwasser Villiage

The village is located just across from the popular Hunderwasserhaus in Central Vienna. Hundertwasser Village was formerly a tire shop, and then it was converted into the Village. There is a village square in the middle, a bar, restaurants and numerous stores that sell souvenirs, paintings, and abstract art. It even has a rooftop forest garden and abstract art decorated bathrooms (that cost 0.80 euros to enter). Admission to the Villiage is free.

Naschmarkt is a Vienna market that dates from as far back as 1780. In 1780, the market was on the right bank of the river Wien – just outside the city walls. In 1793 it was ordered that all fruit and vegetables that were coming in from outside of the city must go to the Naschmarkt. In 1910, more than 120 market stalls were built, and it became a wholesale market that sold just about anything. In 1972, it moved to its current location on the outskirts of Vienna and was modernized to its current form. There are all sorts of international stalls and restaurants.

Weihnachtsdorf am Uni-Campus (Christmas market)

If you are looking for someplace where the locals love, and you are traveling in Vienna around the holidays, be sure to check out the Weihnachtsdorf am Uni-Campus Christmas market. It is open every year from around November 15th through December 23rd. There are Christmas food stands, children’s activities, and Christmas decorations and trinkets.
