Vigan Transportation
Before you come to Vigan, make sure you know what sort of transportation options are available. Here are a few suggestions you need to consider.
Bus Ride In
If you are located outside the city, taking the bus is one of the more popular ways to travel. It is a 10-hour bus ride from Manila via the Partas Bus. There are several of these throughout the day and leave from the 816 Aurora Boulevard location. There are a few other bus options that travel into Vigan, but in general, this is seen as the best and safest option.
The Kalesa
You may not be accustomed to seeing this kind of transportation option. Essentially it is a horse and buggy, just on a short, two-wheeled carriage. It is an oddly romantic experience to do this, although you do sit pretty close to the driver as you ride. Also since the two giant wheels are situated directly to your sides, it often feels like as if the carriage is going to flip backwards (it won’t). It is a fantastic little taxi- like service you should take at least once during your visit.
The Tricycle
This is basically a smaller version of the tuk-tuk. If you are familiar with this kind of transportation option, it is a motorized, three-wheeled vehicle. Only with this, the vehicle is much, much smaller than a traditional tuk-tuk. Even if you are traveling with one other person, you may need to rent two tricycles (unless the two of you are on the smaller side). Most of Vigan is easy to walk on your own as it isn’t very large. However, if you don’t feel like walking or it is just a bit further than what you’d like to do on your feet, the tricycle option is something to consider.
Rent-Your-Own Option
You are more than welcome to rent your own bicycle. The streets can be a bit hectic (which you’ve probably come to discover if you’ve been to any Southeast Asian city). It is smaller, so the traffic isn’t as bad, although it will be difficult to store your bike anywhere. A motorbike might be a better option, but realistically, just taking the local transportation services may prove to be easier, especially for shorter trips.
