This week we’re reading about the best beaches for beautiful Memorial Day weekend weather, a new movie-rental site just for globetrotters, and a just-launched inspirational series of love letters about destinations.
Best Beaches for Basking
The folks at Travel Channel have put an interesting spin on the ubiquitous best-beaches roundup. They’ve put together a list of the top beaches for Memorial Day weekend travel, but there’s a twist: They picked the beaches based on long-range forecasts from weathertrends360. These are coastal spots deemed low risk for gray skies and rain. Just remember to slather on some sunblock. We get the feeling these places are also high risk for UV rays.
Redbox for Travelers
I once tried to watch a movie on Netflix in Amsterdam, only to learn that the company’s online films weren’t licensed for viewing in the Netherlands. It was a soul-crushing discovery that forced me to go outside and actually walk around Amsterdam. Thanks a lot, Netflix!
BudgetTravel reports there’s a new online movie-rental site in town. It’s called Digiboo, and it’s just for travelers. Download a movie from a kiosk at the airport and then watch it on your computer on the plane, in your destination, wherever. Movies cost $3.99, and after 48 hours, the files self-destruct. It’s all very Mission: Impossible.
Fall in Love with Travel
Travel trumps dating in so many ways. A destination won’t stalk you on Facebook, take you to IKEA for dinner, or post an absurdly outdated picture on its OkCupid profile. Fittingly, Huffington Post Travel is launching a series of wanderlust-filled love letters written by celebrities, athletes, local personalities, and, well, pretty much anyone with a good story to tell.
The first Love Letters Project essay, by author Ann Patchett, is an ode to Nasheville. Writes Patchett, “I just read a piece in the New York Times Magazine about Jack White and Third Man Records, which is his record store-cum-performance space-cum-recording booth-cum-office. Instead of thinking, ‘Only Jack White,’ I found myself thinking: ‘Only Nashville.’
We’re sold. To seek travel inspiration—or submit your own love letter—head on over to HuffPost Travel.
