Arlington

About

Located directly across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., Arlington, Virginia, offers easy access to the many things to do in the Nation's capital, as well as a few impressive sights of its own. Just minutes from the White House, Arlington is a less-expensive but convenient place to stay when touring D.C. And, because the cities are connected via the Metro, it's easy to get to the Smithsonian, Vietnam Memorial, and the Pentagon from Arlington. Those interested in military history will want to tour the city of Arlington as well. Arlington National Cemetery is the final resting place of more than 300,000 American veterans, from the American Revolution onward. It is also the site of the Tomb of the Unknowns, where three unidentified soldiers are constantly guarded. John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy are buried side-by-side in the cemetery, and visitors can pay tribute to the brothers and their contributions to the country. Other monuments in the city of Arlington include the U.S. Marine Corps Memorial, which depicts the American flag being raised at Iwo Jima. The U.S. Air Force Memorial's three impressive stainless steel spires pay tribute to the core values of the branch and to the men and women who have served their country. And the Women's Memorial honors all women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces since the American Revolution. Arlington is served by Ronald Regan Washington National Airport, as well as by Dulles International Airport. Collectively, more than 40 million passengers pass through these two airports yearly, so finding flights to Arlington should be an easy task from most cities.
