Nevada

When To Go

Nevada is a diverse year-round destination, with dry, hot summers in the south and cool winters in the mountains. The weather is favorable for golf any time, the Reno and Lake Tahoe region has some of North America's best skiing in the winter, and casinos, particularly in Las Vegas, are always open no matter what time of the year or what the weather is like.

high season: September to June
low season: July to August

The above seasons are a composite of different parts of Nevada. Because Nevada is such a big and diverse state, travel seasons vary by specific area. For example, Las Vegas experiences high season most of the year, except for a few weeks around July and August and late November and December. Reno's high seasons are during the summer and winter.

Weather Information

In the South, Nevada experiences dry, hot temperatures that typically reach over a hundred degrees during the summer. Areas in the north stay fairly warm with temperatures that range from 75 to 90 degrees during the day and cooler temperatures at night. While the weather is pleasantly warm throughout the rest of the year in the south, the north is prone to snow and a cooler climate during the winter.

Crowd Information

Since Nevada hosts many different daily events throughout the state, there may be as many as 50 events taking place at any time attracting crowds.

Closure Information

The Reno Lake Tahoe region has 13 ski resorts that open from October through April or May.

When to Save

In Vegas, the period between Christmas and New Year's Eve, or during the weeks following Labor Day, can be good times to save on hotels. In Lake Tahoe, the best values can be found in October, when the aspens are changing color and the weather is still pleasant. May is also a good time to save money in Lake Tahoe, but the weather can be volatile. Reno is an affordable destination throughout the year.

When to Book

Anytime can be a good time to book, even at the last minute. However, it's a good idea to book 21 days in advance to ensure reasonable airfare and availability. It's also a good idea to book hotels in advance to ensure choice of rooms.
