West Virginia experiences four seasons and can be an affordable destination year-round. The most popular time to visit is during the summer when school is on break, and in the fall when hunting season takes place and the leaves change color. Summers are humid and hot, with temperatures averaging 85 degrees. Spring and fall are cooler, with temperatures ranging from 67 to 80 degrees. Winters see heavy snowfall and are typically cold, with temperatures dropping into the 20s. West Virginia experiences sporadic showers and occasional thunderstorms throughout the year.

Crowd Information

West Virginia sees the most crowds between Memorial Day and Labor Day, with August being the busiest month. Festivals, holidays, and football games such as the Apple Butter Festival on Columbus Day, the Uniquely West Virginia Wine and Food Festival in April, and many of the events hosted in support of West Virginia University's first home football game also attract large crowds. Fall foliage is another attraction that draws many visitors.

Closure Information

Lodging, shops, and other attractions remain open throughout the year. However, the Potomac Eagle train stops running in October. Some museums and state parks also close for the winter season.
